Background
On June 12, 2025 the Air India plane was crashed at Ahemdabad. The Boeing 787-8 plane of Air Indian Limited, scheduled for Gatwick Airport (EGKK) at London from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (VAAH) at Ahemdabad met an accident immediate after the takeoff. This plane having 230 passengers, 10 cabin crew and 2 flight crew during the accident. In this crashed, almost 300 person, including local citizen, was died. After crash, Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) and other authorities visits the plane crashed site for obtaining or retrieve the data and evidence.
Preliminary Report
On July 12, 2025 after one month of this accident on Saturday, Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), Ministry of Civil Aviation of Government of India issue a preliminary report which states that ''what actually happened before plane crash''. Plane is equipped with two Enhanced Airborne Flight Recorders (EAFR), one in pilot cockpit and another one in tail of the plane. AAIB retrieve various significant informations from EAFR.
What Actually happened?
As per Aviation Traffic Control (ATC) record data, the communication from ATC to plane pilots are given below :
07:43:00:The aircraft requested pushback and startup.
07:43:13: ATC approved pushback.
07:46:59: ATC approved Start up.
07:49:12: ATC queried if the aircraft required full length of the runway. The aircraft confirmed requirement of full length of RUNWAY 23.
07:55:15: The aircraft requested taxi clearance, which was granted by ATC.
08:02:03: The aircraft was transferred from Ground to Tower Control.
08:03:45: The aircraft was instructed to line up on the Runway 23.
08:07:33: The aircraft was cleared for Take-Off from Runway 23, Wind 240°/06 Kts.
08:09:05: MAYDAY call was made by Al171.
EAFR of cockpit recorded that one of the pilots asking from the other pilot "why do you cutoff the fuel of one engine". But the other pilot replied that he did not do so. The CCTV footage obtained from the airport showed Ram Air Turbine (RAT) getting deployed during the initial climb immediately after the takeoff. The aircraft started to lose height before crossing the airport. After few seconds fuel of both engines are cutoff which affect the minimum idle speed of a plane. One of the pilots transmitted “MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY”. The ATCO enquired about the call sign but ATCO did not get any response and observed that the aircraft crashing outside the airport boundary and activated the emergency response.
Damages
The plane crashed into a Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Medical College and Civil Hospital which is used as medical student's hostel and house of doctors. Immediate after crash it causes fire which damage to five buildings, including the medical college and staff residential quarters.
There are some images, showing plane crash and damages due to crash.
Enhanced Airborne Flight Recorder (EAFR)
Enhanced Airborne Flight Recorder (EAFR), also called "Black Box" , is providing vital data for accident investigations and preventative analysis. It play a crucial role in aviation safety.
Further Actions
This is a preliminary report based on the investigation procedures or evidences till the date of issue of this report. It may be have some significant changes as further investigation procedures had done and more evidence obtained by the investigation team.
